Quickstart

From an account to a file stored in SwiftFS Cloud, with the AWS CLI. It takes a few minutes.

1. Create an account and an organization

  1. Sign up with your name, email and a password of at least 10 characters.
  2. Open the confirmation link we email you. It is valid for 24 hours; the console can send a new one.
  3. Create an organization: a name, and a URL name such as acme. You become its owner. Teammates can join later by invitation.

2. Create a bucket

In the console, open Buckets and choose Create bucket. Bucket names are 3 to 63 characters: lowercase letters, digits, dots and hyphens, starting and ending with a letter or digit. They are unique across all of SwiftFS, so prefix them with something of yours: acme-media.

3. Create an access key

Open Access keys and choose Create access key. Give it a description ("laptop", "web app"). You can limit it to some buckets, make it read-only, and set an expiry.

The secret is shown once. Copy it, or copy one of the ready-made configurations the console shows with it. If you lose it, revoke the key and create another.

4. Upload with the AWS CLI

Any S3 tool works. With the AWS CLI version 2:

Terminal
export AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID=… # from step 3
export AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY=…
export AWS_DEFAULT_REGION=us-east-1 # the region shown with your key
export S3_ENDPOINT=… # the endpoint shown with your key

aws --endpoint-url "$S3_ENDPOINT" s3 cp ./photo.jpg s3://acme-media/photos/photo.jpg
aws --endpoint-url "$S3_ENDPOINT" s3 ls s3://acme-media/photos/

For SwiftFS Cloud, the endpoint is https://s3.swiftfs.rw and the region us-east-1.

You can also upload from the browser: open the bucket in the console and drop files on it.

5. Share a file

A presigned URL lets anyone with the link download a private object, until it expires (up to 7 days):

Terminal
aws --endpoint-url "$S3_ENDPOINT" s3 presign s3://acme-media/photos/photo.jpg --expires-in 3600

To make a whole prefix public, see access control.
